Artists

Musicians featured in this piece are:

Christine McVie – lead vocals, Bösendorfer grand piano, Mellotron and keyboards
Stevie Nicks – harmony vocals
Lindsey Buckingham – electric guitar (Fender Stratocaster through Leslie speaker and Stratoblaster) and acoustic guitar harmonics
John McVie – bass guitar
Mick Fleetwood – drums and percussion

The song was written by Christine McVie. Produced by Fleetwood Mac, Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut, recorded at Record Plant, Sausalito, California, 1976.

Note: “Oh Daddy” emerged spontaneously during the Rumours sessions, with John McVie improvising his bass lines and Christine McVie adding unplanned keyboard flourishes near the end of one take — which the band kept in the final recording. McVie said she wrote the song in the shoes of Mick Fleetwood’s wife Jenny Boyd during their separation. Mick Fleetwood has named it one of his eleven greatest recordings of all time.

Fleetwood Mac – Oh Daddy Lyrics

Oh Daddy,
You know you make me cry,
How can you love me,
I don’t understand why.
Oh Daddy,
If I can make you see,
If there’s been a fool around,
It’s got to be me.
Oh Daddy,
You soothe me with your smile,
You’re letting me know,
You’re the best thing in my life.
Oh Daddy,
If I can make you see,
If there’s been a fool around,
It’s got to be me.
Why are you right when I’m so wrong,
I’m so weak but you’re so strong,
Everything you do is just alright,
And I can’t walk away from you, baby
If I tried.
